The name of WOLD is not considered any part of family name patronymics and is most commonly believed, within the family, to come from the name Volden. Volden was Cornelius Anderssen's farm name of Storvolden (which at other times was called Storvollen). Use of farm name for family name was another common Norwegian surname practice.

All the children of Hans and Baroline adopted WOLD as the family surname. It has yet been determined why or when this occured or why WOLD instead of VOLD. The family in Norway says the name is from the place they lived; Storvold (at Maroya). Vold/Voll is a name from the landscape, a green field, so the determination is that WOLD basically means a big green field, a grass meadow or farmland (and Storvold truly is).

I would very much like to add any appropriate Wold genealogy to this database/website. Just send me an email (see link above) with the data. I would only ask that your source material be included where possible.

**This is our family tree data and it is not the complete WOLD database that I maintain. This website format allows either all of the descendants or all of the ancestors of a specific individual and does allow extended families. You can get the complete database from me through a GEDCOM that will provide all of my database. Please do not hesitate to contact me (see the link in the headers above) if you have any questions or are looking for more data from my database.
